The world of Mundus was home to many different species, races, creeds and religions before the great event took everything away. Those who survived, strong-willed and able-bodied, went on to keep their beliefs alive, passing on the tales of their patrons and gods. The sight of a Paladin was once commonplace, but now it is but an almost mythical symbol of hope; a dim but still flickering spec of light in a nightmarish landscape.
This Paladin, however, wasn’t exactly the most capable student. The fact that he survived the Onslaught (and even saved many lives) is a complete mystery. Whispers tell a tale of a brave young being; either a troll, daeva, or some bizarre combination of ogre and dragon have been told in a few remaining settlements but disregarded as nonsense. Thomas IV is that being, and he has no idea.
A simple unassuming beast, Thomas IV is (apparently) a Dragonborn that looks like no other. One of the few that survived, he has continued living simply by being at the right place at the right time. His curiosity knows no bounds and he has wandered far and wide for as long as he can remember (which really isn’t that long at all). A relatively squat creature, he hunches at seven feet tall and sports a rather wide and flat face coated with small armoured scales. Tufts of silver fur just out at random intervals between scales and a general scent of ozone surrounds him.
Thomas’ armour battered and broken, shield and axe at the ready, he is a mighty defender when threatened. He has all the appearance of a slow and brutal fighter, but therein lies his perfect disguise in a world that seeks to snuff out his kind of light.
He may not have noticed, but Thomas is forever followed by a small purple butterfly. That may seem odd at first, but what’s really strange is that this butterfly will occasionally appear with a small piece of fruit in its grasp (somehow) that it will drop into the dragonborn’s mouth.
Thomas IV arrived at the port of Eishorn on a stormy summer’s eve, masquerading as a Mercenary in order to get across on the ferry. The once noble island-city of Eishorn had once been a thriving metropolis of commerce and industry; now it lay in ruin, inhabited by unliving orcish warbands and other horrors. Thomas was soon sent off with a group of other living mercs in order to clear out and secure a silver mine that had been seized by a local blue dragon.
After leaving Eishorn for the mine, Thomas could soon hear gentle whispers on the wind… urging him to continue down the dark path that lay before him.
